I guess since the entire series is first person we only get to see the parts of Bella's world that she really is interested in. Which is rather small scope for me. I usually don't go for any first person books, unless where is a lot fo action and the main character is faced with a lot of complications, or trying to solve a murder. That's where Twilight falls short for me. Main character is only thinking about one thing, and when it comes down to it, it's really not that interesting to me.

Being in a relationship, I don't just sit around the talk about how much I'm in love with my SO, we do stuff together, instead of just talking about our history, and really we have a lot in common because we are both honors students that are psych majors.

I don't get what Bella and Edward have in common. There's no chase, it's too easy.

Welcome to Centerville

Imagine a place so far away from civilization, where no one knows, where almost no one lives. Miles from the nearest large city, just a small town in the middle of Kansas. All you can see around his rolling hills, the dust and dirt swirling out in the countryside. Save for the farms, well irrigated and green, and unnatural patch of life in this almost desert.

Where Centerville lies is out of sight, and out of mind for the rest of this world. But it has a secret. Here, where there is nothing, lies a rip between this life and the one beyond. Creatures from every walk of life, and afterlife roam here, passing back and forth from the Veil. Devils and angels meet in public areas, the dead walk, vampires and werewolves keep separate districts, a group of humans with unnatural powers have bound together to rid their world of these creatures. But there are others watching the balance between the living and the dead - three gods watching and keeping the status quo with humans able to see beyond the veil. Don't forget about the average normal inhabitants of Centerville, trying to live life as the unnatural knocks at the front door.

The battle for dominance has begun, angels, demons, the undead and the humans all looking to the Seer for the answers. What laws govern this anomaly? Who will win?

 Vlogs?

Dear TF,

How would you feel if Red and I recorded our cast with a video? I tend to make rediculous faced while talking, and make hand motions I know you all can't see but would help me convey it to you.

Good idea? Bad idea?

Thought popped into my head because a friend of mine has started Vlogging.

 Commentary?
« Result #6 on Feb 11, 2009, 2:13am »

Hey there TF!

Just wondering what your thoughts were on listening to Red and I do our own commentary on Twilight the movie. We would give you a time marker to start the movie on, and just watch it and give comments, jokes, whatever.

Would you want to listen to us go on and on about this, or is listening our podcast enough?

Yea!!

Finally was able to download. ;D

Glad to hear that you guys are getting some good feedback - even if it's from anti-Twilight sites. My personal opinion about hate sites of any kind is that it's a waste of time and energy dedicating yourself to something you hate.

I know Malice, you hate Twilight, but I'm just assuming it's meant to be a point/counterpoint between you and Red - which is cool.

You guys probably already know this, but there are many, many, many book fans who hated the movie. They hated the FX, they hated the makeup, they hated Kristin Stewart, etc. In fact, there are at least as many people who hated the movie as did not - probably more.We need to keep in mind that most fans went to see the movie (sometimes multiple times) in order to make this film a success in spite of what they thought about the movie - because they wanted the next one to be made! I am not that big of a book fan and I didn't hate the movie. I liked it - some of it was in some ways an improvement on the book. I like the addition of technology, the bookstore scene, the meadow scene and the documentary-like style. I liked the cinematography. I also liked that it doesn't look like every other teen movie out there - it's moodier and kind of spooky. The rest was problematic.

About Catherine Hardwicke, I do not believe she left her directorial position of her own accord. Of, course we probably will never know the truth of what happened, but here are some perspectives from knowledgeable film writers:

http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/the_big_picture/2008/12/why-twilight-di.html

http://www.mcnblogs.com/filmessent/2008/12/twilight_shifts_direction.html#more

http://weblogs.variety.com/thompsononhollywood/2008/12/summit-entertai.html

I thought Catherine Hardwicke was an interesting choice, and I thought she deserved the chance to direct the sequels. I think she learned a great deal with Twilight and I suspect that if she were a man who brought the level of recognition and success that she did to a film franchise that she would still be there. I could be wrong...

Chris Weitz certainly could do a fine job as well. Certainly the only thing good about The Golden Compass was the special effects. Cool.

At this stage, Taylor Lautner has been confirmed as Jacob, so good new for him. I always thought he would be fine.

Hey - and stop hatin' on Michael Gambon! ;) He really is a wonderful and well-respected actor (so was Richard Harris of course). He just had a different take on Dumbledore or related better to Dumbledore's other side. Harris' Dumbledore was all warm and sweet and kooky - and that's fine for the early books. But he does change (or we see more of it) in the later books and we see a colder, tougher, harder Dumbledore. I think we'll see a softer side in the 6th movie. After all, we have to be sorry he's gone...

Later!

I'm looking forward to what you guys think...

Malice - the things you mentioned were the things that I liked about the movie. There was plenty I didn't care for... But I liked the cinematography and the overall "feel". I really loved creepy, scary, socially awkward Edward. I liked the leads (Rob and Kristen) and all the "humans" - especially Charlie (Billy Burke). I also liked the documentary-like quality of the scenes where the dialogue is breathy and halting. They're terrified and exhilarated and the words sometimes fail. I liked the extreme close-ups. This is where you realize Bella is examining Edward's every move and gesture. I think it works. The movie overall had an "indie" feel to it that I appreciated.

I'm not going to discuss the special effects much except to say the tree-climbing/jumping actually worked for me while the running was more of a problem. There were a few quick shots where Rob's feet were suspended in midair. This is an "old-school" effect - not CGI - so when compared to modern effects it looks "cheesy", but it was actually done pretty well. Check out Superman ('78) for to compare - and some bad wigs too...

There wasn't enough of the Cullen family.

No explanation of Carlisle's background and no Volturi references.

Liked the internet search scenes for Quileute legends and vampires. Thank goodness they updated the technology!

Loved the "meadow scene" because Bella took charge. Actually, Bella is the strong one in the relationship and it shows in the movie.
