Hey there,
I thought I'd post up a link to the offical movie site and get some of your fist impressions.
First - Edward on the cover of Entertainment weekly - not cool.
Second - Movie posters - get a comb....
Any other thoughts?

Okay, first impressions:
- EW Cover - whimsical.
- Movie Posters - Edward doesn't look like "himself", but he looks like marble. And I kinda like the scary look. Is he going to kill Bella or protect her?
I am a fan of Catherine Hardwicke, so I think the movie will be fun. I just wish there was not so much hype - it needs to be a smaller film.
But I was thinking...it would make a great anime.

But if it turns into an anime - I wouldn't want it to become like 'Clone Wars.'
It would make the special effects easier though...
Every time I see a picture of Pattinson as Edward, he always looks so angry, or like he's truly fighting something within himself. Which I suppose would be best for the character since he is fighting his own blood thirsty nature.

Clone Wars. Hmmm. I was thinking more along the lines of my avatar Ergo Proxy or maybe Death Note. I don't particularly like the style of Clone Wars but I can appreciate the work it took to develop that technique. I read a review of the Twilight script that explained that in the movie, the audience doesn't know for a while whether Edward really is falling in love with Bella or if he just wants to get her alone to kill her. Hence the menacing looks. Edward is scarier in the movie. I think this is an improvement while still staying true to the heart of the story.

So, I'll admit, I just went to see it today.
Edward just starts as creepy in the beginning, and I'm wondering if the whole movie was filmed with a blue filter. It didn't have the feel I was expecting. I'm no film critic by any means, but the entire feel of the movie bothered me. Perhaps after I dwell on it and Red and I have done some discussion I can better put it into words.
Not to say I didn't like it. I'm not a Twi-fan in general, so this shouldn't surprise anyone around here...you listen to me rant on Twilight enough as it is.

I'm looking forward to what you guys think...
Malice - the things you mentioned were the things that I liked about the movie. There was plenty I didn't care for... But I liked the cinematography and the overall "feel". I really loved creepy, scary, socially awkward Edward. I liked the leads (Rob and Kristen) and all the "humans" - especially Charlie (Billy Burke). I also liked the documentary-like quality of the scenes where the dialogue is breathy and halting. They're terrified and exhilarated and the words sometimes fail. I liked the extreme close-ups. This is where you realize Bella is examining Edward's every move and gesture. I think it works. The movie overall had an "indie" feel to it that I appreciated.
I'm not going to discuss the special effects much except to say the tree-climbing/jumping actually worked for me while the running was more of a problem. There were a few quick shots where Rob's feet were suspended in midair. This is an "old-school" effect - not CGI - so when compared to modern effects it looks "cheesy", but it was actually done pretty well. Check out Superman ('78) for to compare - and some bad wigs too...
There wasn't enough of the Cullen family.
No explanation of Carlisle's background and no Volturi references.
Liked the internet search scenes for Quileute legends and vampires. Thank goodness they updated the technology!
Loved the "meadow scene" because Bella took charge. Actually, Bella is the strong one in the relationship and it shows in the movie.
